villagerrr Share “Virginia” With Hotspit Ahead of New Album Carousel
villagerrr team with Hotspit on “Virginia,” a new single from Carousel, out 5/29 via Winspear.
With Carousel just a couple of weeks out, villagerrr are back with another preview of the record: “Virginia,” a new single featuring Richmond’s Hotspit. The Columbus band have already rolled out “Locket,” “Swimming,” and the title track, and this latest cut keeps the momentum moving toward the album’s release.
Frontman Mark Allen Scott says “Virginia” is “a song about trying to keep your head down and keep going even when things feel like they’re all falling apart on a grand scale.” That sense of strain runs through the writing, especially in lines like: “How to explain what you can’t explain/ Tell me how/ How to revise or reiterate memories.”
As with the earlier singles, the song lands as a broad, alt-country sweep rather than something trimmed down or tentative. It also arrives with a video directed by Trevor Hock; watch below.
Carousel is out 5/29 via Winspear.
