The Rolling Stones Announce New Album Foreign Tongues, Share Lead Single “In The Stars”

The Rolling Stones have officially announced Foreign Tongues, their follow-up to Hackney Diamonds, and released the new single “In The Stars” ahead of the album’s July 10 release on Capitol.

The Rolling Stones may not be the nonstop touring machine they once were, but they are still very much in motion. After Ronnie Wood revealed late last year that a new record was finished, the band has now made it official: Foreign Tongues is coming, and the first proper single, “In The Stars”, is out now.

The announcement follows 2023’s Hackney Diamonds, the band’s first full set of original songs in 18 years and their first studio album after the death of Charlie Watts. That project paired Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and Wood with producer Andrew Watt, and he returns for Foreign Tongues, due in July via Capitol. The album artwork is by Nathaniel Mary Quinn, and the three surviving core members are scheduled to appear at a launch event in Brooklyn this afternoon.

Jagger described the new sessions in London as focused and high-pressure, saying the band recorded 14 tracks during “a very intense few weeks” at Metropolis Studios. “I like the room there as it’s not too big so you can feel the passion in the room from everyone,” he said.

Richards framed the new album as a continuation of Hackney Diamonds, emphasizing the energy of recording in London again. “It was a month of concentrated punch,” he said. “To me, it’s all about the enjoyment of it. I’m blessed to be able to do this and long may it last.”

Wood added that the sessions moved quickly, with multiple songs landing on first takes: “The atmosphere in the room was so creative, and the whole band was on top form throughout the whole process. Very often we nailed it on the first take. I hope everyone loves it.”

On Record Store Day, the group quietly previewed the era by releasing “Rough And Twisted” under the alias the Cockroaches. Now, with “In The Stars,” the rollout is fully underway. Listen below, along with the album trailer.
