Sleep Token surprise-release instrumental version of Even In Arcadia
Sleep Token have released an instrumental version of Even In Arcadia, with coloured vinyl due August 7.
Sleep Token have quietly dropped the instrumental version of Even In Arcadia, giving fans a new way into the band’s latest era. The release is out now on major streaming platforms, while a coloured vinyl edition arrives on August 7. Pre-orders and pre-saves are available here.
The London masked metal band put out their fourth studio album last May, and it became a major milestone almost immediately. Even In Arcadia gave Sleep Token their first Number One on the UK Albums chart and the US Billboard 200, while “Caramel” became their first-ever UK top 10 single. For a band that’s spent years building in plain sight and behind the veil, that kind of crossover still lands with force.
This isn’t the first time they’ve gone back and stripped a record down. Instrumental editions of 2019’s Sundowning and 2021’s This Place Will Be Your Tomb have both been released before, though that pattern notably skipped over the breakout 2023 album Take Me Back To Eden. The new version of Even In Arcadia continues that habit, and for fans, it offers another angle on a record that already arrived with plenty of weight around it.
As well as the commercial success, Even In Arcadia brought Sleep Token their first two Grammy nominations, for Best Metal Performance for “Caramel” and Best Rock Performance for “Emergence.” Turnstile and Yungblud took those awards, respectively.
In December, the band also shared a colouring book tied to Even In Arcadia, featuring “25 extraordinary designs from Sleep Token’s enigmatic, groundbreaking and genre fluid career”. That followed a huge summer too: Sleep Token headlined Download Festival for the first time, and the set was later described by KoRn as something that “shut everybody up” among anyone questioning whether they could handle that slot.
The album itself earned a five-star review from NME, which wrote: “Even In Arcadia shatters any pressure of expectation into oblivion, building on the bravery of its predecessor, sonically, while its lyrics reveal the most exposed version of Vessel we’ve seen yet. From Eden to Arcadia – and beyond – let the worship continue.”
Now the focus has shifted back to the music in a different form, and fans are already pushing for more. Specifically, they want the reworked version of “Rain” that appeared in The Game Awards’ Hype trailer to get a full release. At this point, it feels like a question Sleep Token are very much aware of.
