Chicago trio REZN follow 2024's Burden with Cycles In The Infinite Dream. New single "Cloudfall" adds lap steel to Spencer Ouellette's synth and sax textures: heavy riffs that still drift. Album due 7/24 on Sargent House.

There are few bands right now taking doom into such drifting, proggy territory as REZN. In 2024 Stereogum ran a feature on the Chicago trio after they signed to Sargent House and released Burden. Now the band has announced Cycles In The Infinite Dream and shared a single, “Cloudfall”.
What stands out immediately is texture. REZN rarely trade in blunt, abrasive gestures; instead they pile instruments until riffs feel like environments. Spencer Ouellette — synth, sax, now lap steel — is the secret agent in the corner, adding swells and off-kilter counterpoint to the guitar’s low-end mass. “Cloudfall” contains some genuinely heavy riffs, but even at attack it smells faintly of drift: lysergic, half-waking, patient.
Fans who heard Burden will recognize the through-line: expansive arrangements, moments that stretch and breathe. Live, those moments mutate. Hearing “Cloudfall” at a club feels different than on record; the lap steel takes on a second life in a PA’s decay, the harmonies fold over the audience and the low end becomes almost tactile. It asks you to lean in.
“We moved towards the dream and subconscious state as a lyrical concept and melodic theme. The pseudo-waking state is a reflection of a second existence — something that you can flee to or be imprisoned by.”
The single’s video, directed by Chris Owsiany and Tom Conway, pairs close performance shots with dreamlike passages that underscore that press-release idea. The editing prefers breathing spaces over quick cuts; gestures — a hand, a string bend, a face in shadow — are allowed to linger. Watch it yourself below.

Cycles In The Infinite Dream is due 7/24 on Sargent House. For fans who caught REZN live last year — or anyone who leaned into Burden‘s slow expansions — this next record looks like a deepening, not a departure. It feels calibrated for late sets and festival nights where time can stretch and songs can, too.
