Pixies set first-ever vinyl release for ‘Complete B-Sides: 1988-97’

Pixies are remastering and reissuing ‘Complete B-Sides: 1988-97’ on vinyl for the first time as part of their 40th anniversary plans.

Pixies are finally bringing ‘Complete B-Sides: 1988-97’ to vinyl for the first time, with every track remastered for a new 40th anniversary edition arriving on June 26.

The release lands as part of a bigger stretch for the Boston band, who are already marking their four decades together with a UK and European tour in 2026 and a stack of festival dates this summer. For a group whose catalogue has spent years being picked over by fans, this is one of those archival moves that actually matters: a record that first appeared on CD in 2001 is now being treated like a proper physical artifact.

Originally issued as a 19-track collection from the band’s classic 4AD period, spanning 1988 to 1991, the compilation gathered together B-sides like ‘Wave Of Mutilation (UK Surf)’, ‘Into The White’, ‘Bailey’s Walk’ and ‘The Thing’. It came out while Pixies were still deep in their long hiatus, which only sharpened the mythology around this era.

This new edition will arrive as a double CD as well as the first vinyl pressing of the set. The original tracklist spreads across three sides of wax, and there is now a fourth side added with bonus live tracks, including six cuts taken from later single releases, among them the 1997 re-release of ‘Debaser’. Pre-orders are open Visit here.

The compilation also arrives as a companion to the recent reissue of Live At The BBC. That release featured new cover art from designer Chris Bigg, who used images of Black Francis and the band drawn from Simon Larbalestier’s archive, material that had previously been left on the shelf.

Pixies will be back on UK stages next month for a large outdoor show at On The Mount at Wasing, while their festival run includes a headline set at Bearded Theory, an appearance at NOS Alive in Portugal and a slot at the 10th anniversary edition of Mad Cool in Madrid. Tickets are available here.

The band’s ninth studio album, The Night The Zombies Came, arrived in 2024. Around that time, Pixies told NME they were open to doing more full-album performances on tour after previously playing Trompe le Monde and Bossanova in their entirety.

“As a fan, I love those things,” said Joey Santiago. “We went to ‘Aja’, the Steely Dan show. It’s incredible knowing that it’s going to be all of ‘Aja’ and right behind me were all the drummers – Danny [Carey] from Tool, Josh Freese, Pat Wilson were all behind me watching it.

“I’m just saying Steely Dan’s cool…The only thing about doing it in order is that Charles and I have to switch guitars. So there’s a lot of that going on, so it disrupts the show a little bit. But we like doing it.”
