Mighty Hoopla Malta 2026 Cancelled as Soaring Airline Costs Make the Trip Unsustainable

Mighty Hoopla Malta 2026 is cancelled as rising airline costs and reduced flight schedules push travel prices up, organisers confirm refunds.

Mighty Hoopla Malta 2026 has been cancelled after organisers said rising airline costs and reduced flight schedules made the festival economically unviable for both fans and production teams.

The Malta offshoot of London’s queer-pop celebration was due to return for a second edition this year from September 24 to 27, with a bill that included Sugababes, Agnes, Beth Ditto, Booty Luv, Gottmik, Jake Shears and Liberty X. Today (Thursday May 7), organisers told NME they had made the difficult call to pull the plug.

Organisers said the decision came after speaking with airlines serving Malta and seeing clear signs of disruption this summer. The festival pointed to a sharp jump in travel costs as a decisive factor: when the Malta event first launched customers were reportedly paying around £300 for flights and accommodation combined; that figure has risen to nearly £450 on average.

“It is with a very heavy heart that we must inform you that, after much consideration, we are cancelling Mighty Hoopla Malta 2026,” organisers wrote in a statement. “After an incredible weekend in 2025, we had everything in place to not only replicate that magic for this year, but also deliver an even better show.”

They added that airlines had warned of fewer scheduled flights and likely price rises, leaving the event in a very different financial position compared with its 2025 launch. A recent fan survey showed many ticket-holders had not yet booked travel, the statement said, and uncertainty around both cost and availability was likely to block other would-be attendees.

The organisers stressed the decision was not taken lightly and thanked local partners and airline contacts for insight that helped them reach a conclusion sooner rather than later.

All customers who booked tickets directly through Mighty Hoopla will receive a full refund, including booking fees. For more information, organisers direct fans to the festival website:.

For those who arranged travel and accommodation independently, Mighty Hoopla said it plans to offer compensation in the form of credit or refunds for its London event or future shows, should those bookings be affected.

The first Mighty Hoopla Malta took place last year between September 26 and 29, with performances from Melanie C, Leigh-Anne, Trixie Mattel, Bimini and Katy B.
