Mick Jagger Says He’s Been a Zara Larsson Fan Since 2018
Mick Jagger said he’s been a Zara Larsson fan since 2018, and Larsson responded after hearing the Rolling Stones icon’s Today show clip.
Mick Jagger has made his admiration for Zara Larsson pretty clear, and not in some polite, passing-way interview answer either. On the Today show earlier this week, the Rolling Stones frontman was asked which contemporary artist he’s been listening to, and he brought up the Swedish singer without hesitation.
“My son said to me, ‘Oh, Zara Larsson is having a big comeback.’ I said, ‘But she never went away for me,’” Jagger said. He went on to point to Larsson’s 2018 single ‘Ruin My Life’ as the moment he really locked in. “When I’m in that mood, that’s what I like,” he added.
Larsson happened to appear on the same show on Friday (May 8), and the hosts played the clip back for her. Her reaction was immediate: “I can’t believe it,” she said after watching. “It’s so beautiful to just see how everyone’s coming on this journey.”
The timing makes sense. Larsson put out her fifth studio album last summer, led by the singles ‘Pretty Ugly’, ‘Midnight Sun’ and ‘Crush’. Then, earlier this month, she followed it with the remix album ‘Midnight Sun: Girls Trip’, a star-packed set that pulls in PinkPantheress, Shakira, Tyla, Robyn, Madison Beer, Kehlani, Bambii and more.
NME gave the release 4.5 stars, writing: “Coupled with the undimmed effervescence of the original album, ‘Midnight Sun: Girls Trip’ is a journey worth taking. And for Larsson, the doors to the ‘Khia asylum’ are rapidly fading from sight in the rear-view mirror.”
Larsson’s summer is already filling up fast. She’s set for a run of festival appearances that includes Mad Cool, Radio 1’s Big Weekend, Lollapalooza, Montreux Jazz, Sziget, Pinkpop, Open’er, All Points East and Parklife. She also joined PinkPantheress at Coachella this month, and recently appeared on Tyla’s new single ‘She Did It Again’.
Jagger, meanwhile, has his own headline-making news to keep moving through the cycle. The Rolling Stones officially announced their upcoming album ‘Foreign Tongues’ earlier this month, and confirmed guest appearances from Paul McCartney, Robert Smith, Steve Winwood and the band’s late drummer Charlie Watts. It was also revealed that the record will include a cover of an Amy Winehouse classic.
