Lightning Bug Announces New EP In Between Things, Shares “Song for a…”

Lightning Bug shares “Song for a…” and announces In Between Things, a new EP arriving 7/14 on Real Life Music.

Lightning Bug has gone back to where it all began. What started as Audrey Kang’s solo project became a full band, and now it’s Kang again steering the name on her own. The latest Lightning Bug album was 2024’s No Paradise, a full-band release, but the project’s new chapter is already taking shape as a more personal return.

Since that record, Kang has moved from New York to Los Angeles, and last year she shared a demo of “Feast” to help raise money for California wildfire recovery. That song now opens In Between Things, the new Lightning Bug EP arriving this summer.

Kang has spent the past few years traveling widely, and In Between Things is meant to reflect those movements. Today she’s shared “Song for a…,” a hushed, glimmering track that gives plenty of room to her airy, expressive voice. Co-produced by Kang with Sam Robertson and Ryan Richter, it begins with fluttery acoustic guitar and a soft touch, then slowly expands without ever losing its calm center.

In a press release, Kang describes the song as capturing “the jolt, sudden awakening of falling in love — the zig-zagging between closeness and distance, among all the new unfoldings as you work out the friction of how to let someone in while keeping yourself safe. As if that’s even possible.” It’s a pretty exacting way to frame a song that already feels tangled up in that push and pull.
