Ken Carson Launches ‘The Xperiment’ Era With a Guest-Packed Rolling Loud Orlando Headline Set

Ken Carson stepped into Rolling Loud Orlando’s Sunday night headlining slot on May 10 after NBA YoungBoy pulled out on Thursday, May 7, and he made the replacement feel less like a scramble than a statement. With Destroy Lonely and Playboi Carti already set to appear on Saturday, the weekend was primed for Opium-heavy momentum anyway, and Carson used the opening to turn a last-minute booking into the kind of live rollout that hip-hop fans remember.

The Atlanta rapper, who sent More Chaos to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 last year, arrived around 9 p.m. ET and wasted no time. He debuted an unreleased track expected to land on his next LP, and the crowd reacted exactly how you’d hope at a Rolling Loud set built on anticipation and volume: by losing it. For the first stretch of the show, Carson kept moving through his catalog, working in the teased snippet “Grow Apart” and leaning into the kind of pace that lets a newer headliner prove he can carry the night, not just occupy it.

Then the guests started rolling through, and the set got bigger in every direction. Lil Tecca was first, sliding into “Tic Tac Toe” and “500lbs” with the sort of ease that made the pairing look overdue rather than surprising. Coming off what Billboard described as a major 2025, Tecca looked less like a cameo and more like someone who could have owned the stage himself.

Playboi Carti closed out the guest list in proper finale fashion. Swapping his YSL suit look for a 2Pac T-shirt, leather pants and clean white high-top Air Force Ones, he came out for the kind of late-set payoff that can make a strong show feel outsized. The pair premiered two collaborations, including the bouncy “ARP,” where Carti works in his deep-voice flow, and “Cover My Ears,” which leans hard into the Whole Lotta Red-adjacent production that has become part of this lane’s language.

Carson also teased quick snippets of unreleased cuts “Boil” and “Stars” before ending on another new track, one that borrows from 2hollis’ “Girl.” Its most pointed line came when he pushed back on being boxed into one lane: “No matter what I make, they gon’ call it rage,” he raps.

By the time the dust settled, at least one fan was already calling it the best set of his life. That kind of reaction says a lot less about hype than it does about momentum. Carson has his first No. 1 album, his recent tour stops have looked chaotic in the best possible way, and this Rolling Loud set felt like the kind of night that can widen an artist’s orbit without dulling the edges. If The Xperiment really is the next phase, he’s starting it where the crowd is loudest.
