Kacey Musgraves Disguised Herself as a Giant Armadillo to Hunt Down Middle Of Nowhere in Stores

Kacey Musgraves marked release week for Middle Of Nowhere by dressing as a giant armadillo and searching Walmart, Barnes & Noble, and Target for her own album in a prank video full of dry humor.

Kacey Musgraves is celebrating release week with a stunt only she could pull off: going undercover in a full-body armadillo suit to track down copies of Middle Of Nowhere in the wild.

In a video posted Monday, May 4, Musgraves roams a Walmart dressed head-to-toe as the mascot-like creature, quietly browsing the music section before asking an employee if they have the “new Kacey Musgraves” album. The deadpan reply — “I don’t recognise that name” — lands as the clip’s sharpest joke.

She eventually finds the vinyl, grabs a stack, then heads to Barnes & Noble for another check. Along the way, the video cuts to her reading armadillo trivia, leaning into the bit rather than rushing past it. The final stop is Target, where she repeats the mission before ending the skit sprawled on her back in the street like roadside “roadkill.” It’s weird, dry, and very online in exactly the way fans expect from her humor.

Middle Of Nowhere, released last week, is Musgraves’ seventh studio album and follows 2024’s Deeper Well. The record includes collaborations with Willie Nelson, Miranda Lambert, and Billy Strings, tying her current writing mode to a broader country lineage without sanding off her own voice.

Critical response has leaned positive. In a 3.5-star review, NME called it one of her most thematically cohesive projects, highlighting its isolation-minded writing and sparse arrangements. The review also noted that while a few songs blur together in the middle run, the album’s focus and restraint give it weight.

Before release, Musgraves previewed new material during a surprise Coachella 2026 appearance — her first set at the festival since 2019 — giving early listeners a first look at the quieter, more grounded direction she’s now fully committed to on record.
