hey, nothing return with “Boat Garage,” their first new track of 2026

Atlanta duo hey, nothing return with "Boat Garage," an emo-leaning single out now on Music Soup/Interscope after "Barn Nursery" and the 33° EP.

hey, nothing have arrived with their first new song of 2026. “Boat Garage” lands as a moodier, emo-leaning pivot from the Atlanta duo, trading some of the pastoral softness of earlier work for a chunkier riff and a chorus built to hang in your head.

If you remember last year’s “Barn Nursery,” you probably remember the shorthand that followed it: our own Chris DeVille called the band “the tweemo Big Thief.” There’s no need to outdo that comparison here; “Boat Garage” continues to live in that same space—nuanced, vulnerable, and quietly furious—while nudging a little harder toward the emo side of the equation.

They dropped a 33° EP after “Barn Nursery,” and now this single feels like the next logical step. On first listen, the song pairs a big, hearty singalong chorus with a thick guitar figure. It is, in a weirdly specific way, possibly the catchiest song you’ll hear about being shaken after your neighbor’s house burns down.

Shaded by the tonal umbra of indie rock and roll, a sound that just begs you to dance, two deeply frightened individuals lay. “Boat Garage” is the manifestation of our anxieties as the world burns deeper and deeper every day. We don’t know what the hell we’re doing or how to help and so instead, we spiral, help less, worry more, look at pictures of dogs on the internet. “Boat Garage” pokes fun at ourselves for asking the question “Am I the problem?,” because the answer is both “yes” and “no.”

The press release says it plainly: these are songs about anxious people trying to make sense of the world while mostly failing at it. That mix of earnestness and self-aware irony is what will keep listeners coming back for repeat plays.

For fans who followed the band from “Barn Nursery” through the 33° EP, “Boat Garage” confirms hey, nothing haven’t lost their appetite for tight melodies and emotionally raw songwriting—even if they’re steering into slightly darker waters this time.
