A career-spanning Greta Van Fleet montage ending with “Thanks for the wild ride” has sparked breakup fears—and new music theories—among fans, as the band remains silent on what comes next.

Greta Van Fleet fans are trying to decode a new social post that feels, at least on first read, like a farewell.
On May 4, the Michigan band shared a montage pulling from old videos and live footage across different eras of their career. It closes with a message signed by all four members: “Thanks for the wild ride. Love, Josh, Jake, Sam and Daniel.” There was no caption clarifying what it meant, and no follow-up statement.
That ambiguity is exactly why the comments lit up so quickly. One fan wrote, “What do you mean. No like what do u mean.” Another added, “This better not be a break up announcement,” while someone else asked why the band was “wording things in a way” that could send people into panic mode.
The timing matters. Greta Van Fleet have been mostly quiet lately, and their last run of live dates in support of Starcatcher wrapped in summer 2024. Before this week, their most recent post was in July 2024, marking the album’s second anniversary.
Not everyone thinks it signals a split. Some fans pointed out that each segment of the montage appears to line up with the first single from each album cycle, fueling another theory: this could be the start of a new rollout rather than an ending. With no official explanation, both readings are still on the table.
Beyond the speculation, the band’s recent history gives the moment extra weight. In 2023, frontman Josh Kiszka said he felt a “huge weight” lift after publicly sharing that he had been in a loving same-sex relationship for eight years. He later said the response brought reassurance and made him feel more understood as both an artist and a person.
There are also signs of activity around the wider Greta orbit. Jake Kiszka recently appeared in Bruce Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere, playing guitar in a New Jersey club scene. Starcatcher producer Dave Cobb worked on the film as well and brought in Bobby Emmett from Jack White’s band for that sequence.
For now, though, fans are left with one short sign-off and a lot of questions. Farewell post? New chapter teaser? Either way, Greta Van Fleet know how to get people watching the horizon.
