Green Day-inspired comedy NIMRODS, produced by the band, will open in theaters Aug. 14 after premiering at TIFF 2025.

Green Day fans now have a date to circle: NIMRODS, the band-inspired comedy named after the group’s 1997 Billboard 200 top 10 album Nimrod, is headed to theaters this summer. Inaugural Entertainment announced the release on Tuesday, May 12, and confirmed it is partnering with Legion M, the fan-owned entertainment company, on the film.
Directed by Lee Kirk, NIMRODS is a coming-of-age story built around a very specific kind of bad idea: three friends take a cross-country road trip to Los Angeles after wrongly thinking their band has landed an opening slot for Green Day at a New Year’s Eve show. The chaos is drawn from Green Day’s own years spent living out of a tour van, which gives the film its road-worn starting point.
We’ll be having the time of our lives when this movie comes out.

The cast brings together teen actors Mason Thames, known for The Black Phone and How to Train Your Dragon, and Mckenna Grace, who appears in Scream 7 and Regretting You, alongside comedian Fred Armisen. Also joining them are Kylr Coffman, Ryan Foust, Ignacio Diaz-Silverio, Keen Ruffalo, Jenna Fischer, Angela Kinsey, Bobby Lee and Sean Gunn.

Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool are producing the film, along with Ryan Kroft, Michael Rapino of Live Nation Entertainment, Tim Perell for Process and Jonathan Daniel. Legion M co-founders Jeff Annison and Paul Scanlan said in a statement that the project gives fans a rare piece of the action: “Green Day wouldn’t exist without the fans, and we’re excited to give those fans the opportunity to own a stake in the film as we work with the incredibly talented teams at Inaugural, Live Nation and Green Day to bring it to audiences.”
The movie first premiered at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival, where it screened under the original title New Year’s Rev. It’s now set to arrive in theaters on Aug. 14.
