Foo Fighters made their Tiny Desk debut with new songs, classics, and Dave Grohl jokes after the release of Your Favorite Toy.

Foo Fighters made their Tiny Desk debut with a set that moved between new material and the songs that have carried them this far, playing stripped-back versions of both in the NPR offices on Wednesday, May 13.
The appearance followed the release of their new album Your Favorite Toy, and the band used the moment to showcase two songs from it: “Spit Shine” and “Child Actor.” That second track had already surfaced on SNL UK, and Dave Grohl nodded to that performance while introducing it, joking that he had accidentally inhaled a lock of his hair during the earlier appearance. By the end of the Tiny Desk set, he was relieved enough to say he “didn’t choke.”
They also reached back into the catalogue for “Learn To Fly,” “My Hero” and “Everlong,” a run that makes sense for this kind of setting, even if the band’s instincts still lean toward volume and momentum. Grohl, meanwhile, found a chance to salute two of his favourite Tiny Desk Concerts of all time: Trouble Funk and Juvenile.
NME gave Your Favorite Toy three-and-a-half stars and wrote: “Vocally, Grohl has rediscovered his roar, but lyricism has never been his strongest suit, and much of it here is throwaway; those looking for signs of where his head is at after his infidelity scandal two years ago will be largely disappointed.
“Your Favorite Toy is a few more tracks of that depth away from being the most vital Foo Fighters record since 1997’s The Colour and the Shape. For now, at least, they have remembered that no-frills punk, played fast and loud, suits them much better than middle-of-the-road dad-rock.”
Since the album arrived, the band have said they were forced to rename it because of Wicked: For Good, and have also appeared on Track Star and The Late Show. Now the focus turns to the road, with a European stadium tour coming up that includes two nights at Liverpool’s Anfield Stadium at the end of June.
There’s more ahead after that too: additional major European dates, a North American stadium run, and an Australian and New Zealand tour scheduled for late 2026 and early 2027. Any remaining tickets for the Foo Fighters’ US tour are available here, while UK and Europe tickets can be found here.
