Dua Lipa Sues Samsung for $15 Million Over Alleged TV Box Image Use

Dua Lipa has sued Samsung for $15 million, alleging the company used her image on TV packaging without permission.

Dua Lipa has filed a $15 million lawsuit against Samsung, accusing the company of using her face to help sell TVs without her permission or payment.

The complaint was filed in California on Friday, May 8, and says Samsung began using a photograph of Lipa on the cardboard packaging for its televisions last year. According to the suit, the image appeared without her knowledge and without any agreement in place.

When Lipa learned of the packaging, she allegedly asked Samsung to stop using her image. The company, the complaint says, responded in a way that was described as “dismissive and callous” and declined to remove it, per Variety.

“Ms. Lipa’s face was prominently used for a mass marketing campaign for a consumer product without her knowledge, without consideration, and as to which she had no say, control, or input whatsoever,” the lawsuit states. “Ms. Lipa did not allow and would not have allowed this use.”

The filing says the photo was taken backstage at the Austin City Limits Festival in 2024, and that Lipa owns the copyright to it. It also argues that Samsung benefited from the implication that she had endorsed the product, even though she had not, pointing out that she is “highly selective” about endorsements and has built a “premium brand.”

The complaint also leans on social media posts from X to make its point, citing users who said Lipa’s presumed approval had nudged them toward buying the televisions.

“I wasn’t even planning on buying a tv but I saw the box so I decided to get it,” wrote one commenter, quoted in the complaint.

“I’d get that TV just because Dua Lipa is on it,” wrote another. “That’s how obsessed I am. That’s how much I love her.”

Another wrote that if you need to sell something, “Just put a picture of Dua Lipa on it.”

The lawsuit includes claims for copyright violation, breach of California’s right of publicity statute, a federal Lanham Act claim, and trademark infringement. Samsung has not yet commented on the case.

Elsewhere, Lipa recently curated the Southbank Centre’s 2026 London Literature Festival. Earlier this week, she also made a surprise appearance during Tame Impala’s headline show at London’s O2.
