Don Toliver Escapes the Cops With Kali Uchis in High-Speed “E85” Video

Don Toliver’s “E85” video turns a police chase into a helicopter getaway with Kali Uchis, after Rolling Loud Orlando teasers sparked rumors.

Don Toliver’s “E85” has spent months holding down a spot in the upper reaches of the Billboard Hot 100, and now the track has a video that matches its momentum. After teasing the clip at the end of his Rolling Loud Orlando set, Toliver dropped the visual on Wednesday, May 13.

Directed by Shadrinsky, the video puts the Houston artist in the middle of a fast-moving police chase, with Toliver tearing down the highway in a Porsche 918 while a pack of squad cars closes in like he’s racked up some impossible Grand Theft Auto heat. Things move quickly from there. He’s taken into custody, then the action shifts to a mostly bodycam-shot interrogation room, where the pressure keeps mounting until Toliver gets into a scuffle with officers and comes away with one of their guns.

From there, the escape gets even bigger. Toliver makes his way to the station rooftop, where Kali Uchis, his real-life partner, arrives in a helicopter to pull off the rescue. He ends up dangling from the chopper’s skids as the getaway is completed. It’s a wild finish, but it landed with fans who had already started speculating on Friday, May 8, after footage from the visual made the rounds online and some thought Toliver was actually being detained in Florida.

He shut that rumor down later that night by playing portions of the music video to close out his headlining Rolling Loud Orlando set.

“E85” is currently No. 35 on this week’s Billboard Hot 100 and has stayed inside the top 40 since arriving in January. The song opens Octane, the album Toliver released the same month. That project became his first No. 1 on the Billboard 200, moving 162,000 total album-equivalent units in its first week, according to Luminate.

Toliver is also in the middle of the Octane Tour, which stopped in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on Tuesday, May 12. Next up is a homecoming date in Houston at the Toyota Center on Thursday, May 14.
