Bonnie Tyler was hospitalized in Faro, Portugal, for emergency intestinal surgery; reps say the operation went well and she is expected to make a full recovery.

Bonnie Tyler was admitted to hospital in Faro, Portugal, for emergency intestinal surgery and is currently recuperating, her representatives confirmed yesterday (Wednesday May 6).
“We are very sorry to announce that Bonnie has been admitted to hospital in Faro, Portugal, where she has a home, for emergency intestinal surgery,” her reps wrote on her official website. They added that she is “in stable condition and expected to make a full recovery soon.”
“The surgery went well, and she is now recuperating. We know that all of her family, friends, and fans will be concerned about this news and will be wishing her well for a full and swift recovery,” the statement continued.
The release did not specify the precise cause of the emergency, though outlets including the Daily Mail have reported that Tyler suffered a perforated intestine after experiencing intense abdominal pain. More details were promised at a later date.

The update lands as Tyler prepares to launch a European run, which is slated to begin in Malta on May 22. At the time of writing, that first show is still scheduled to go ahead.
Only a few months earlier, Tyler had been telling interviewers she felt healthy and ready for the road. Speaking to Hello! in March she said, “Iâm fit enough at the moment, touch wood, and Iâm really enjoying doing the shows. Iâm still rocking on that stage with my wonderful band, and if youâve got your health, youâve got everything.” She also told The Mirror (via Wales Online) that although she has “slowed down” in recent years, she has no intention of retiring.
Fans and fellow musicians will be watching for further updates as Tyler recovers. For now, the message from her camp is simple: the operation went well and she is on the mend.
