Billy Corgan brings ‘A Night of Mellon Collie and Infinite Sadness’ to the UK and Europe in 2026

Billy Corgan is taking A Night of Mellon Collie and Infinite Sadness out of North America and into the UK and Europe next year, extending the live project built around Smashing Pumpkins’ 1995 landmark Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness.

The run was first announced in March 2025, before beginning in North America later that year. Corgan fronted the project with a 60-piece orchestra, turning the album into what he described in Chicago as a “completely new, sonic and visual experience.” That initial seven-night stretch at the Lyric Opera House in November set the tone: part concert, part theatrical reset, and very deliberately not a nostalgia lap.

Now the show is crossing the Atlantic. London gets two nights at Royal Festival Hall on September 1 and 2, before Corgan heads to Antwerp for two shows, then Paris for another pair, and finally Madrid later in the month.

Under the billing A Night of Mellon Collie and Infinite Sadness Featuring Billy Corgan, the music is credited to Corgan and Grammy-nominated conductor James Lowe. Onstage, the Smashing Pumpkins frontman will appear with soloists and orchestras, keeping the scale of the production firmly in the operatic lane it has been pushing toward from the start.

According to the press release, the performances aim to “re-imagine and pay homage to the era-defining album of the same name, whilst also expanding the definition and intention of opera.” It also singles out a “tear-jerking” orchestral version of “Tonight, Tonight,” which remains the sort of song that can still make a room lean in, even decades on.

The visual side has also been treated as part of the statement. House of Gilles by Gilles designed the costumes, while the vocal lineup includes Ed Parks, who will appear in London, Belgium and France, alongside Sydney Mancasola, Zoie Reams, Dominick Valdes Chenes and Dean Murphy, the latter performing in Spain only.

Smashing Pumpkins also marked another Mellon Collie milestone last year with a 30th anniversary deluxe reissue. That set included more than 80 minutes of unreleased audio from the band’s 1996 tour, a hardbound book with new liner notes from Corgan, a custom tarot card set, and seven frameable lithographs.

Back in February, Corgan told NME he was already thinking about that anniversary, saying he was “working with the parent label” on a revisited version of the album. “It’s weird because I can’t believe it’s been 30 years. I’m really excited, but at the same time, I’m like ‘What happened over these last 30 years?’” he said.

Since then, he has kept busy in the interview and performance circuit: inviting Hole’s Melissa Auf der Maur onto his podcast, talking about being inspired by Courtney Love, bringing Love on the show to discuss their issues with “gatekeeper” Kim Gordon, and duetting with Sombr at Coachella.
