Pete Davidson takes aim at Kanye West during Kevin Hart’s Netflix roast as Ye watches from the crowd

Pete Davidson took fresh shots at Kanye West during Kevin Hart’s live Netflix roast, with Ye watching from the audience.

Kanye West was in the room when Pete Davidson went after him at The Roast Of Kevin Hart, and the tension was exactly what you’d expect from that setup. Netflix aired the event live on Sunday night, May 10, from The Kia Forum in Los Angeles, with comedian Shane Gillis hosting and a lineup that included Dwayne Johnson, Regina Hall, Katt Williams and Chelsea Handler.

Davidson’s turn on stage came with a direct hit at Ye. Speaking to fellow comic Tony Hinchcliffe, he said, “Tony, nothing you say tonight will hurt my feelings. I was in a beef with Kanye, so I’ve taken shots from better gay Nazis.” It was the kind of line built to land hard in a room full of people waiting for a reaction, and according to TMZ, West did not give much away. He was seated among the audience, described as “stone-faced” and “expressionless” while Davidson delivered the joke.

If there was one moment that seemed to register more with him, it was when One Battle After Another star and former Ye collaborator Teyana Taylor took the stage. TMZ noted that West was more enthusiastic at that point, which says a lot about how carefully people were watching his reactions in the first place.

Davidson also aimed another joke at Hinchcliffe, tying him to Charlie Kirk and then pivoting into another blunt Ye dig that spread quickly online. The roast, by design, thrives on that kind of public discomfort, and Davidson, who has already spent years with this particular feud attached to his name, seemed more than willing to keep feeding it.

The background matters here because this isn’t just random roast material. Davidson began dating Kim Kardashian after her split from West, and in 2022 the rapper openly escalated their beef. Ye turned Davidson into a claymation caricature in the video for ‘Eazy’, showing him being kidnapped, buried alive and decapitated. It was extreme even by Kanye standards, and it immediately drew criticism from across the entertainment world.

James Gunn and Kaley Cuoco were among the high-profile figures who defended Davidson after that video. Davidson eventually responded publicly, saying, “I’m not gonna let you treat us like this anymore and I’m done being quiet.” He also shared text messages between himself and Kanye, including the now infamous reply to a question about where he was: “in bed with your wife.”

The Kevin Hart roast marked Netflix’s second live comedy roast after the platform’s 2024 event centered on Tom Brady. More recently, it emerged that Paul McCartney was one of the main targets for the 2026 edition, with Will Smith also reportedly in the mix.

West’s appearance at the roast came during an already messy week for him. He lost a copyright infringement trial over the unauthorized use of a sample on an early version of ‘Hurricane’, with a jury finding him personally liable to pay more than £130,000. Meanwhile, his new album ‘Bully’, released in March, has been followed by a stalled attempt at a world tour, with shows in the UK, Switzerland, Poland and France cancelled over his past antisemitic remarks.
