U2 filmed the “Street of Dreams” video in Mexico City, drawing crowds, a graffiti bus, and echoes of their rooftop past.

U2 has taken over the streets of Mexico City for the video shoot to “Street of Dreams,” with Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr. all spotted in the Mexican capital as the band works on its next music chapter.
The new track is set to appear on the group’s still-unannounced studio album, due later in 2026. On Tuesday, May 12, the Rock Hall-inducted band was seen performing atop a school bus covered in graffiti by local artist Chavis Mármol, while hundreds of fans crowded around the scene to watch.
There’s a certain U2 mythology to that kind of public spectacle, and this one inevitably calls back to one of the band’s most famous street-level moments. In the late ’80s, they staged the rooftop performance in downtown Los Angeles that became part of Meiert Avis’ video for “Where the Streets Have No Name.” That clip later won the Grammy Award for best performance music video at the 31st Annual Grammy Awards, while The Joshua Tree helped seal the band’s status as a stadium force and, for a stretch there, the biggest band in the world.
Mexico City is also hosting the 2026 Street Child World Cup, with 30 teams from around the globe in town for the tournament, which began May 6 and runs through Thursday, May 14. Mullen framed the organization in plain terms: “It’s a little NGO with a big kick for kids with all of the talent and none of the access,” he said. “Our band are proud supporters.”
The upcoming record will follow 2023’s Songs of Surrender, which reached No. 5 on the Billboard 200 and No. 1 on the Official U.K. Albums Chart. U2 have been busy around that release cycle, too. In April, with the Easter Lily EP arriving, Bono offered a glimpse of what the next album is aiming for.
“We are in the studio, still working towards a noisy, messy, ‘unreasonably colourful’ album to play LIVE… which is where U2 lives. We still look to vivid rock n roll as an act of resistance against all this awfulness on our small screens. These are for sure ‘wilderness years’ for so many of us looking at the mayhem out there in the world,” the singer said in a written statement.
He added, “The Dublin fourpiece will attempt hoopla and fanfare at a later date to remind the rest of the world we exist but in the meantime, this is between you and us.”
U2’s history is already heavy with milestones: 34 songs on the Billboard Hot 100, including two No. 1s, and eight No. 1s on the Billboard 200. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005, and in 2023 they became the first act to play the Sphere in Las Vegas, launching the venue with U2:UV Achtung Baby Live at Sphere.
