Conan O’Brien Set to Host the Oscars for a Third Straight Year

Conan O’Brien will host the Oscars for a third straight year, the first three-year run since Billy Crystal.

Conan O’Brien is headed back to the Oscars stage, making him the first person to host the ceremony three years in a row since Billy Crystal did it more than three decades ago.

The Academy will once again lean on O’Brien for the 99th Oscars, while Raj Kapoor and Katy Mullan are also returning as executive producers for a fourth straight year. It is a notable stretch of continuity for a show that rarely stays still for long. Billy Crystal was the last host to pull off a three-year run, from 1990 through 1993.

O’Brien’s first two turns drew positive notices, though awards shows never really allow anyone to relax for long. Kapoor has already shown a willingness to change things up on other upcoming productions he’s executive producing, swapping Reba McEntire for Shania Twain on the Academy of Country Music Awards, set for May 17, and Cynthia Erivo for P!nk on the Tony Awards, set for June 7.

“Getting to reunite with Conan O’Brien for a third year at the Oscars is really special,” Kapoor and Mullan said in a joint statement. “He brings that signature humor everyone loves, along with a real warmth and generosity that carry through the entire show. He’s a true creative partner, someone we trust completely, and someone who makes the whole process genuinely fun, both behind the scenes and on stage. We’re incredibly grateful to keep building this together and can’t wait to share what’s next.”

The 99th Oscars will take place on Sunday, March 14, 2027, at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood. ABC will broadcast the show live, and Hulu will stream it live as well.

O’Brien’s résumé still runs deep across television and podcasting. He is best known for Late Night with Conan O’Brien, The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien and Conan, and currently hosts Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend and the HBO travel series Conan O’Brien Must Go. He has won six Primetime Emmys and has 33 nominations overall, including one for his Oscars work.

Kapoor has collected nine Emmy nominations and won for the 96th Oscars, along with Adele: One Night Only, which took outstanding variety special (pre-recorded). His producing credits also include The Grammy Awards, ACM Awards, Latin Grammys and The Emmy Awards.

Mullan, meanwhile, is an executive producer, showrunner and partner at global live event production company Done + Dusted. She has earned two Emmy nominations for her Oscars work and won for the 96th Oscars.

Jeff Ross and Mike Sweeney are also back as producers for a third time, with Sweeney additionally set to write.
