MUNA’s Dancing on the Wall took Billboard’s weekly fan poll, beating Charli xcx’s “Rock Music” and other major new releases.

MUNA came out on top this week, with Dancing on the Wall voted fans’ favorite new release in Billboard’s poll published Friday, May 8. The LA indie-pop trio’s new album edged out a crowded field that included one of the week’s most closely watched releases, Charli xcx’s “Rock Music.”
That competition was no small thing. The poll also found listeners weighing new full-lengths from J Balvin and Ryan Castro, Lykke Li, Little Simz and The Chainsmokers, along with fresh singles from The Last Dinner Party, PJ Morton, Ashley McBryde and others. Still, Dancing on the Wall rose to the top.
The win matters for MUNA, whose members Katie Gavin, Naomi McPherson and Josette Maskin return with their third studio album on Saddest Factory Records. It’s their first release since 2022’s self-titled album, the record that pushed them further into the mainstream thanks in part to the Phoebe Bridgers collaboration “Silk Chiffon” and the critical heat that followed.
On Dancing on the Wall, MUNA keep working inside the emotionally blunt, high-gloss indie-pop lane they’ve made their own, but the title track lands with a particular urgency. It’s one of the year’s most immediate dance cuts so far, the kind of song that feels built for a room full of people who already know every word before the chorus arrives.
Charli xcx’s runner-up, “Rock Music,” was framed as a conscious shift away from the Brat-era sound that fueled her 2024 commercial peak. Speaking to British Vogue in April, she said,
“If I’d made another album that felt more dance-leaning, it would have felt really hard, really sad. What’s interesting for me is to bend the possibilities of what my perspective on that could be.”
The single arrives ahead of a new album that has not yet been announced.
