Dua Lipa Sues Samsung for $15 Million Over Alleged Unauthorized Use of Her Image on TV Boxes

Dua Lipa is suing Samsung for $15 million, alleging unauthorized use of her image on TV boxes and seeking damages for infringement.

Dua Lipa has filed a $15 million lawsuit against Samsung, accusing the company of using her image and likeness to move televisions without her permission or payment. The complaint, filed Friday, May 8, says Samsung “prominently featured” an unauthorized photo of the pop star on retail TV boxes in 2025 and 2026, and argues the use amounts to copyright infringement, trademark infringement, and a violation of her right of publicity.

According to Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp LLP’s civil action documents filed with the United States District Court in the Central District of California, Lipa first became aware of the packaging in June 2025 and immediately demanded that Samsung stop. The firm says the company did not back down.

“Samsung has refused to comply with Ms. Lipa’s repeated demands that it cease and desist from infringing on her rights by the continued exploitation of the Infringing Products. Samsung’s response has been dismissive and callous, and the Infringing Products remain on the market to this day, still being sold throughout the country in ongoing acts of willful infringement,” the filing states.

The complaint frames the matter as more than a one-off misuse. “Samsung’s willful and deliberate misconduct has caused, and continues to cause, substantial, manifest, and irreparable harm to Ms. Lipa, while enriching Samsung at her expense,” it says. “By this lawsuit, Ms. Lipa seeks to bring Samsung’s conduct to a stop and to obtain damages for Samsung’s theft of her intellectual and personal identity assets.”

A version of the image at issue appears in the court documents. The filing says it is registered to Lipa, who retains sole ownership of the copyright, and describes it as a backstage photo taken at Austin City Limits in 2024. The complaint also includes social media photos posted by fans showing the Samsung product, including one post that read, “I wasn’t even planning on buying a tv but I saw the box so I decided to get it.”

The lawsuit also points to Lipa’s history of turning her image into approved commercial campaigns, naming partnerships with Puma, Versace, Yves Saint Laurent, Porsche, Apple, Chanel, Tiffany & Co., the 2026 Winter Olympics, Bvlgari and Nespresso. That commercial value, the filing suggests, makes the unauthorized use all the more significant.

It comes against a backdrop of major pop success that has kept Lipa firmly in the center of the culture conversation. Her 2020 album Future Nostalgia hit No. 3 on the Billboard 200, while 2024’s Radical Optimism opened at No. 2. She’s also collected three Grammy wins along the way.
