Joey Valence & Brae turned Amyl and the Sniffers’ 2021 punk blast “Security” into something gleefully unhinged on triple j’s Like A Version, swapping out the original’s pub-rock bite for a bass-heavy, synth-slashed dance-rap sprint.
The performance landed while the duo were in the middle of the Australian leg of their HYPERYOUTH World Tour, and it fit the moment: loud, fast, and built for anyone already packed into the room and ready to move. Their version kept the urgency of Amy Taylor’s delivery intact, even as the duo rebuilt the track around electronic production, booming low end, and their own rapid-fire back-and-forth.

Speaking during the session, Brae said the choice was obvious because of the song’s instant impact. “Just has so much energy. As soon as you hear it, you want to bounce off the wall,” he said. “So we knew we had to cover that one.”
They also pointed to Taylor’s performance style, along with the loose, unpolished edge of the recording, as part of what made the song hit so hard. Those qualities helped Comfort To Me break Amyl and The Sniffers internationally, and the album went on to become a key turning point for the Melbourne band.
Released in 2021, “Security” appeared on Comfort To Me, Amyl and The Sniffers’ second album, which reached the top 25 on the Australian albums chart and helped push the group onto bigger festival stages and international touring circuits. Taylor, in the process, became one of modern punk’s most recognizable frontpeople.
Joey Valence & Brae’s cover sends the track somewhere else entirely. It folds in dance music energy, early Beastie Boys-style rap cadences, and the hyperactive electronic textures that already define the duo’s own catalog. It is less a straight tribute than a full-body reinterpretation, one that makes the song feel like it was always waiting to be flipped this way.
The pair released HYPERYOUTH last year, with collaborations across the project from JPEGMAFIA, Rebecca Black, and TiaCorine. The album was produced, mixed, and mastered entirely by Valence in his Pennsylvania bedroom studio.
Their Like A Version appearance followed stops on the HYPERYOUTH World Tour in Auckland, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, and Perth, where the duo have been carrying the album’s momentum into packed rooms and festival-ready chaos.
