BTS Returns to Mexico City After Nine Years, Dazzles 50,000 Fans on ARIRANG World Tour
BTS returned to Mexico City on May 7, 2025, performing for 50,000 fans in a homecoming night full of Spanish phrases, cowboy hats and massive singalongs.
The night BTS came back to Mexico felt less like a concert and more like a homecoming. On May 7, 2025, the septet opened the first of three shows at GNP Seguros Stadium in Mexico City in front of roughly 50,000 people, according to promoter Ocesa, marking their first visit to the country in nine years and a reunion that the local ARMY treated like a holiday.
They arrived with obvious intent to celebrate the moment. Dressed in T-shirts stamped “Ciudad de México” and, at one point, cowboy hats for a playful nod to local style, BTS peppered the night with Spanish phrases and gratitude. “I learned a little Spanish. I want to tell you in Spanish how happy I am right now,” V told the crowd. “First of all, I miss ARMY Mexico so much. I love ARMY Mexico so much. So, I hope you love me a lot, too. You are the reason for my life; you are my everything.” The stadium roared in reply.
V wasn’t the only member to try out the local language. RM, Jungkook and Jimin also addressed fans in Spanish; Jimin even read prepared lines off his phone. “You listen to our songs a lot, right?” Jimin asked, before thanking the crowd: “Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I didn’t know you’d be this amazing here. You really know how to have fun. You’re the best. I love you more than anyone.” Jungkook kept it short and pointed: “It’s the first night here. Let’s make it worth it.”
The run-up to the show had its own bit of theater. Hours earlier j-hope posted a social clip wearing a cowboy hat and playing “Tu Sancho” by Fuerza Regida in the background, prompting chants of “Hobi, brother, you’re already Mexican!” from the local fandom.
The set and the singalongs
The ARIRANG World Tour kicked off loud and hooky with “Hooligan,” and from there the night moved from the new-album workouts to moments built for mass singalongs: “Aliens,” “they don’t know ’bout us,” “Like Animals,” “SWIM” and “Merry Go Round” found the audience singing at full throttle. Thousands of Light Sticks pulsed and synchronized across the stadium, turning the crowd into a single, moving stage light.
The production leaned hard into spectacle. A 360-degree stage in the center of the venue let the group move through the crowd, and in one striking moment the visuals recreated the aesthetics of the South Korean flag — a quiet, proud reminder of what BTS represents beyond pop hits.
They kept momentum with mid-set favorites like “FYA,” “Fire,” “Body to Body” and “IDOL,” parading through the stadium with flags and dancers while phones multiplied their images into a forest of cameras. For longtime fans, the night tossed in two surprise tracks: “Boy In Luv” and “So What,” songs that brought laughter, applause and a few tears as the crowd rode a wave of nostalgia.
And for those who couldn’t get through the gates, the party spilled into the surrounding streets. Thousands gathered outside, singing and dancing to the fireworks and the booming sound that leaked from the arena; some even synced their Light Sticks with the show from afar. The energy lasted for hours.
The set closed on high notes: “Dynamite,” “Please” and “Into the Sun” sent the audience out on a euphoric rush, and the group returned to Spanish once more to offer thanks. “Mexican ARMY are always the most passionate,” RM said. “Thanks to you, I was very happy today.”
With Mexico now added to the ARIRANG itinerary, BTS have visited the country four times across their career. The next two shows in Mexico City are scheduled for May 9 and 10 at GNP Seguros Stadium. The ARIRANG World Tour, promoting the new album ARIRANG, will head to South America this October with stops in Colombia, Peru, Chile, Argentina and Brazil before wrapping in March 2027 in Manila, Philippines.
