Porches Returns With Raw Four-Track Mixtape MASK, Shares Ragged Single 'Habit'

Aaron Maine is back. Porches has announced a new mixtape, MASK, due May 14, and shared a bruised, hungover single called ‘Habit’ alongside a visual from director Rebekah Campbell. The mixtape’s artwork is by Ryan McGinley, and the news arrives hot on the heels of Maine’s co-write and co-pro credit on Kim Petras’ single ‘Jeep’ earlier this week.

‘Habit’ sounds like someone rubbing their eyes after a long night: big drum stomps, rambling guitar and a deliberately ragged mix that refuses polish. Maine says the looseness is the point — he recorded the project on tape and leaned into the limitations of that process.

I recorded ‘MASK’ on my four-track last spring (2025) in the basement on Wooster Street in New York City. I mixed it straight off the tape machine. I was inspired by how impossible it is to really edit anything on the four-track, and I feel like a special spirit was captured in these recordings by embracing their imperfections. I wanted to share them in their rawest form to keep that energy I felt intact.

There is a bluntness to the approach that will matter to listeners who follow Maine’s smaller, more intimate experiments as much as his bigger studio work. The video for ‘Habit’ sits beside the songs like a statement: this is meant to feel immediate, flawed and alive.
