Olivia Dean has quietly turned the ARIA Singles Chart into her own backyard. Her single “Man I Need” (via Universal) climbs back to No. 1 on the ARIA Chart, marking a 21st non-consecutive week at the summit.

Dean actually swapped places with herself this week: “Man I Need” vaults from No. 2 to No. 1, leapfrogging her duet with Sam Fender, “Rein Me In,” which slips 2-1. Between the two songs the British pop singer has dominated — together they have occupied the ARIA Singles Chart throne for 24 of the last 25 weeks.
The only interruption to that run was Olivia Rodrigo’s “Drop Dead” (Island/Universal), which enjoyed a one-week stay at No. 1 late last month before tumbling to 4-7 this cycle. For context, “Man I Need” now sits as the second-longest reigning No. 1 in ARIA history, trailing only Tones And I’s “Dance Monkey,” which amassed 24 non-consecutive weeks across 2019 and 2020. At this pace, that benchmark looks vulnerable.
ARIA published the latest Top 50 Singles Chart late Friday, May 8, and it reads like a map of staying power: no true newcomers cracked the singles list this week. That inertia does not extend to the albums chart, though — the national albums tally introduces seven new releases, led by Melanie C’s Sweat (Virgin Music Group/Inertia) at No. 5.
Sweat is a milestone for Mel C: her ninth studio record and the first to reach the ARIA top 10, besting her 1999 solo debut Northern Star, which peaked at No. 32. ARIA notes that, as a solo artist, Mel C is now the most successful Spice Girl on the Australian albums chart — a career arc that includes four top 10 albums with the group and a 2007 chart-topper with Greatest Hits. Geri Halliwell remains the next best-performing solo Spice Girl in Australia, thanks to Schizophonic, which peaked at No. 22 in 1999.
Also sneaking into the top 10 this week is Irish rap collective Kneecap, whose album Fenian lands at No. 7 — their first appearance on the ARIA charts. Further down the entries you’ll find a handful of other new arrivals: Kacey Musgraves’ Middle Of Nowhere debuts at No. 17 via Interscope/Universal; Australian country singer Rachael Fahim’s Who You Are is new at No. 22 (Island/Universal); South Australian hip-hop artist trials enters with Hendle at No. 24 (Island/Universal); Australian Idol runner-up Harlan Goode places The Idol Collection at No. 42 (Orchard); and The Devil Wears Prada 2 soundtrack arrives at No. 50 (Interscope/Universal).
At the very top of the albums chart Noah Kahan‘s The Great Divide (Universal) remains No. 1 for a second straight cycle, proving once again that while singles can be volatile, albums still have their own steady life.
For now, though, the story that will have fans talking is Dean’s hold on the singles chart. With “Man I Need” and “Rein Me In” trading the top spot, she’s turned the ARIA chart into a two-song showcase of her moment — and it’s not showing signs of slowing.
