Croz Boyce Share New Instrumental “Steven’s Sunshine Rejected” Ahead of Debut LP

Avey Tare and Geologist’s new duo Croz Boyce return with “Steven’s Sunshine Rejected,” a warm instrumental paired with a marine-life video ahead of their self-titled debut on 5/8 via Domino.

Decades into Animal Collective’s run, the band’s orbit keeps expanding. Avey Tare and Geologist, longtime collaborators better known as Dave Portner and Brian Weitz, recently introduced a new instrumental project called Croz Boyce, with a self-titled debut arriving later this week.

After previewing the album with “Hanging Out With A Blueberry Pop,” the duo has now released a second track, “Steven’s Sunshine Rejected.” The song leans into the same handmade, blissed-out atmosphere, with drifting textures and a familiar warmth that longtime Animal Collective listeners will likely recognize right away.

The accompanying video, directed by Joseph Ricketts, pairs the track with crisp marine-life imagery, focusing on close, colorful underwater footage that mirrors the song’s gently immersive mood.

Croz Boyce is out 5/8 via Domino. The duo is also scheduled to perform at Cleveland’s Talk Low Music Festival in September, with additional live dates expected.
